San Diego – As the Tijuana River’s pollution problem worsens, local officials have found a creative way to turn disaster into a health product. Enter Toxic Mud Baths—the latest wellness craze promising “nature’s detox” through mud infused with industrial waste and organic contaminants.
“We’re working with what the environment gives us,” says spa owner Brie Waters. “This mud isn’t just dirty—it’s rich with unique minerals you can’t find anywhere else. Think heavy metals, storm runoff, and microplastics. It’s the Dead Sea with a little extra spice.”
If you can survive a Toxic Mud Bath, you will be immune to some of the worst diseases around.
The spa offers several packages. The Border Blend features full-body mud wraps with river sediment and kelp clusters, while the Chemical Peel Deluxe promises to “reveal glowing skin—and maybe remove a layer or two.” For the adventurous, the Industrial Detox combines mud and sewage runoff for that “post-apocalyptic glow.”
Customers are already raving about the treatments. “I think I found a fish skeleton in the mud—so authentic,” said local resident Kyle. Influencer @SoCalWellnessBabe shared, “It’s a detox for the soul, even if my skin won’t stop tingling.”
While environmental groups and local officials have voiced concerns, Waters is unfazed. “Mild itching and glowing in the dark? That’s progress,” she insists.
Next up, the spa plans to offer raw water soaks from storm drains, promoting them as “hydration for the free spirit.”
With San Diego’s pollution crisis here to stay, these spa owners are proving that when life gives you sludge, the best thing to do is soak in it.
