CA Bans Parking Within a Quarter Mile of Wherever You’re Going

SAN DIEGO, CA — Beginning in 2025, new legislation takes effect, prohibiting Californians from parking within one quarter of a mile from anywhere they might be trying to get to. This legislation aims to reduce incidents of people traveling to and from places like work or stores in a timely manner, while also helping to protect and expand the state’s vital Meter Maid economy.

AB 413 will enforce an enormous buffer zone on both sides of the road, in all directions from wherever you’d hoped to park. The restricted parking zones will be unmarked, and it is incumbent upon vehicle operators to be aware of the new restrictions.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to understand this very important new law,” said San Diego Transportation Commissioner Bethany Badgerface. “I think it’s totally fair to expect tourists to read through all of our traffic policy documents, prior to arrival, and be thoroughly familiar with our elaborate invisible parking zones.”

Violations will be met with a $77.50 ticket during a 60-day grace period. After March 1, 2025, full enforcement will go into effect, and infractions will result in a court-ordered 1 week of forced labor on a bike lane construction crew.
